Includes correspondence and notes concerning his duties as a chaplain in World War I and the writing of his books. There are drafts of his "Imprisoned Preachers and Religious Liberty in Virginia" (Lynchburg, Virginia., J.P. Bell Co., 1938) and of an unpublished work entitled "The Battle of Bethel".

The collection contains research materials on Old/Middle English (The Book of Carving and the Book of Nature) and articles published in various journals. His working papers for editing "Excerpts from the Civil War Diary of Lucien Payne Rogers" are among his professional papers as well as placename notes. There is genealogical data on the Burwell, Jones, Garland and Brooke families as well as information on his childhood in Newport News, Va., early writings, career in the U. S. Army and his interest in the performing arts.

This collection consists of a handwritten draft of "Memories of Williamsburg and Stories of My Father," written by Robert Southall Bright and published in 1941. It also includes addresses delivered by Bright and a memorial booklet about him.
