Rockbridge County (Va.) Apprenticeship Indentures, 1840-1895, are bonds and contracts of apprenticeship given by the Overseers of the Poor, showing the names of master and apprentice, the trade to be taught, details of the contract, the amount of the bond and the names of sureties. Many of the apprentices bound out prior to 1866 were free African Americans.

Rockbridge County (Va.) Court Record, 1838 Dec. 4. The collection contains a document removed from Rockbridge County court records, a contract leasing property in Albemarle County from Richard Morris to Abbagale Harlan.

Rockbridge County (Va.) Democratic Executive Committee Records, 1901-1911, contain committee minutes, 1901-1904, and loose papers, 1901-1911. The minutes document the selection of candidates to run for local and state offices and the appointment of committee members for each election district in the county. The loose records are comprised of petitions, a notice encouraging Democratic voters to pay the poll tax before the upcoming election, resolutions pertaining to the selection of candidates and the management of elections, a sample ballot, undated; a pamphlet describing the primary plan adopted by the Democratic State convention at Richmond 1904 June 10, rules for the senatorial primary election to be held 1911 September 7, and a letter from the Virginia State Republican Committee, 1905 June 13, pertaining to plans to allow candidates of both parties to speak at the courthouse.

Rockbridge County (Va.) Deposition of John Davidson, February 1825. Consists of a deposition taken in Lexington, Virginia, for a Highland County, Ohio, Court of Common Pleas case, James Davis vs. Abraham Roads. The testimony pertains to Abraham Roads' purchase from James Davis of a tract of land in Rockbridge County in 1791.

Rockbridge County (Va.) Free Negro and Slave Records, 1836-1864. The collection is comprised of free negro registrations, 1836-1860; applications and petitions to remain in the state, 1841-1855; petitions for voluntary reduction to slavery, 1859-1862; a photocopy of the index to register of free negroes, 1831-1860; and various free negro and slave records, 1849-1864.

Rockbridge County (Va.) Marriage Register and Processioners' Book, 1779-1830, is divided into two separate sections with different record types. The first section, 1782-1830, is a marriage register. This register, prepared by the county court clerk, records the names of both parties married, the date of the marriage--by day, month and year and name of person by whom married. Of note, a receipt for a peddlar's license, issued in February 1816, is found between notations for marriages in August 1823 and November 1823. The pages of this section are unnumbered and there is no index for this section.

Rockbridge County (Va.) Minute Books, 1779-1889, record all matters brought before the court on a daily basis when it was in session including but not limited to: civil and criminal suits, appointments of county officers, appointments of guardians and administrators, deed recordings, free negro registrations, naturalization registrations, and court fees. Clerks would transfer information from minute books to appropriate order book, deed book, fiduciary book, free negro register, etc. Collection includes minute books from County Court and Superior Court of Law and Chancery.

County Records, circa 1787-1950, undated, consist of the following series: Bonds/Commissions/Oaths, County Administrative Records (subfield series include Board of Supervisors Records, Overseers of the Poor Records, Sheriff's Records, Treasurer's Records, Commissioner of the Revenue Records and Board of Supervisors Records: Road and Bridge Records), Court Records (subfield series include Clerks' Records, Judgments, Jury Records, Criminal Records and Court Finance), Land Records, Organization Records, School Records, Wills, Business Records, Miscellaneous Records, Tax and Fiscal Records, Election Records, Fiduciary Records, Road and Bridge Records and Justice of the Peace Records.

Rockbridge County (Va.) Register of Convicts, 1871-1916, is a "descriptive list of persons convicted of felony and other infamous offences in the county." Based on a form, the listings of each conviction include the individual's name in full and any aliases, the present and last known residence of the accused, the color or race of the individual (including white, black, dark brown, yellow and mulatto), the individual's height, eye color, hair color and any identifying marks, where the individual was born, the apparent or known age of the accused, his or her occupation, the offence, the court in which convicted, the date of conviction, the order book and page number and whether the judgment was reversed or pardon granted and date. There were no convictions listed for 1876 or 1888.
