The boxed materials consist of legal papers, abstracts of titles and other items relating to Moreland's law practice; business and personal correspondence, records of Morgantown and Monongalia County corporations, including the Morgantown Hotel Company, Union Investment Company, Bank of Masontown, and the LaMar Coal Company.

Papers of a Lexington, Kentucky, attorney and editor of the Lexington KENTUCKY GAZETTE, include payrolls of jurors and witnesses, Circuit Court, District of Kentucky, Frankfort, 1830-1838; correspondence, briefs, and other papers in the case of WILLIAM CLARK v. U.S., 1852-1870; newspaper clippings from Lexington and other newspapers pertaining to national and Kentucky politics in the Jacksonian era; and a few pamphlets. Also includes extensive collection of broadsides published in Kentucky in the period 1790-1846 regarding political, cultural, and social issues; an inventory of these broadsides was published in the Kentucky Historical Society Register, vol. 58, no. 4 (October 1960) and vol. 59, no. 1 (January 1961). Papers of Lewis Summers, a lawyer, businessman, member of the Virginia House of Delegates, 1817-1818, delegate to the Virginia Constitutional Convention, 1829-1830, and his brother George W., a lawyer in Charleston, a judge, a member of the House of Delegates, 1830-1832, 1834-1836, the U.S. House of Representatives, 1841-1845, a delegate to the Virginia Constitutional Convention of 1850, candidate for governor in 1851, member of the 1861 Peace Convention, and delegate to the Richmond Secession Convention, 1861. Correspondence between the brothers is for the years 1818-1843. There are also business, legal, and family papers, speeches, and an autograph book of George W. while a student at the University of Virginia, 1854-1857. Correspondents include George Carlisle, James Craik, James M. Laidley, and Luke Wilcox. Persons mentioned or commented on include John Q. Adams, John C. Calhoun, Lewis Cass, Henry Clay, Thomas R. There are muster rolls of Company C, Sixty-second Virginia Infantry, C.S.A., from Pendleton County; and manuscripts of essays, verse, and historical articles written by Andrew Price.

There are also grade school attendance certificates and notes concerning the Lunatic Asylum West of the Allegheny Mountains and Weston State Hospital.
