This collection contains the papers of University of Richmond alumni, David E. Howard, who graduated from Richmond College in 1977. Howard wrote for The Collegian student newspaper and served as editor during his junior year as well as working for The Richmond Times-Dispatch and other media outlets. The David E. Howard Journalism Scholarship at the University of Richmond was established by family and friends in his memory.

The collection contains personal and professional correspondence, printed materials, manuscripts, research files for manuscripts such as the Confederate Heros, newspaper clipplings and notes. Papers include the manuscripts of Harold B. Meyers' books as well as their receptions, journalist documents and newspaper articles related to the U.S. government and key historical incidents in the 1950s and 1960s U.S., and other personal documents of Harold B. Meyers.

Harrison Kinney Papers, 1945/1949

This collection consists of typescript copies of drafts of stories and articles, some with accompanying research documents, which were written by Kinney for the New Yorker magazine, 1949 - 1954. Also included are correspondences written to Kinney's friend and former professor O. W. 'Tom' Riegel, clippings, miscellaneous papers, and one photograph of the unveiling of the United States Marine Core monument. There is a transcript of a program for an event on April 15, 1988 by the National Press Club honoring Riegel and his wife at which many Washington and Lee University alumni spoke. There are correspondences from many people, including Eleanore Roosevelt and Harry Truman, sent to him in response to an article he wrote on the origins of the phrase 'No Comment'.

This collection contains primary and secondary resources pertaining to Robert E. Lee and the Lee family. Included are correspondences from, to, and about Lee and various family members; memorabilia, pamphlets, photographs, reminiscences, miscellaneous personal papers, family history and genealogy. The collection includes materials acquired from the Lee family and items donated to and purchased and compiled by W&L University since Lee's tenure as president of Washington College from 1865 - 1870. Adminstrative papers, such as President's Reports, etc..., from Robert E. Lee's presidency of the school may be found within the W&L University Archives. Highlights of this collection include material concerning the Washington and Lee Journalism Department, including course material, student papers, and lecture notes. Supplementing this course material are published materials on the history of film, 20th century war propaganda, the Nazification of Germany, Paris in the 1920's and the "Lost Generation." There also includes wide selections of personal research materials for projects such as Riegel's books Mobilizing for Chaos and Crown of Glory; collections on Riegel's travels to Central and South America and Europe including Germany during the 1930s, and the typescript of his unpublished autobigraphy to 1945 titled "Hacking It."
