Abstract Or Scope
Henrietta May Steinmesch was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1893. After graduating from the University of Washington in St. Louis, she worked on local governmental and residential projects; during World War II she worked for the Army of Engineers and Air Force, drafting maps and plotting airfields. In 1943, she moved West to California, where she remained until her death in 1979. Materials in the collection consist of watercolors, sketches, block prints, photographs, taped interviews, clippings, and several architectural drawings.

The IAWA Small Collections was compiled from a variety of sources by Special Collections staff for use in reference and research. Drawings, sketches, course notes, correspondence, and other materials pertaining to architectural collections are also present.

Inge Horton was born in Germany. She was a planner with the Planning Department of the City and County of San Francisco, California, from 1983 to 1998; member of the Board of Advisors for the International Archive of Women in Architecture. Her papers consist of architectural studies written while in Germany; presentations made at various women's architectural organization meetings, including the International Union of Women Architects; a curriculum vitae; and research files on early women architects in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Active from the 1950s until 1991. The collection includes both volumes of A Building Manual for the YWCA, written by Alex as well as some biographical information and articles about her work. Also contains correspondence between Alex and other architects about Julia Morgan.

Jean Alice Linden was born in Detroit, Michigan, on February 15, 1922. She became a registered architect of Washington state in 1955 and established her own private practice in 1976. Her designs were almost all private residences, apartment buildings, and small commercial structures in the Seattle area. The Jean Linden Young Papers consist of materials created and collected by Young during her lifetime. They include notes written as an instructor at the University of Kentucky, newspaper articles about her and her husband's architectural projects and accomplishments, information about her tenure as Secretary General of the UIFA, personal and professional correspondence, certificates of accomplishment, photographs and sketches of buildings she designed or renovated, exhibit boards, and literature about architecture in the Seattle area.

The later addition contains paper records, photographic materials, and design records for 73 named clients in the Boston area.
