Collection regarding the Haldeman family of West Virginia, including scrapbooks, photographs, documents, correspondence, artwork, artifacts, books, family bibles, and other material. Also includes a large artwork framed in glass.

This collection consists of the papers of the Hall and Moore families of New York, Richmond, Va. and Williamsburg, Va. Includes wills, estate papers, legal and financial transactions, 1810-1915, of Jacob Hall, Sarah Hall and Cunningham Hall; and Bishop Richard Channing Moore, Virginia Moore, Harriet Glenworth Moore, Margaretta Moore and Louise Moore. Contains correspondence, 1854-1876, between Zebulon S. Farland and Ellen Douglas Gordon Farland; letters, 1906-1928, to Margaret (Farland) Hall, from her children, Emily Hall, Channing Hall, Joseph Hall, and John Lesslie Hall concerning education and World War I; and correspondence, 1887-1889, between Margaret (Farland) Hall and John Lesslie Hall, Sr. The collection also includes teaching notes, professional writings, and alumni correspondence with John Lesslie Hall, Sr. Prominent correspondents of Hall include Lyon G. Tyler, Thomas Nelson Page, Joseph Dupuy Eggleston and Basil Gildersleeve. Includes items removed from "The Writing of English"(PE1408 .M38 1929), a book owned by Emily M. Hall.

Newspaper clippings, mainly from Doddridge and Harrison county, concerning marriages, deaths, family histories, letters from World War I service men, nurses, and from former residents who had moved, or gone to other states to teach, including a series of letters from L.P. Willis from the Phillippine Islands and Japan. Mr.Willis was employed as a teacher and Head Of the Bureau of Education in Japan, and the Phillipines for twenty years. Also, included in the collection are tax and school tuition receipts, orders,unsigned copy of Thomas Hickman's will, deed and other papers of several members of the Hickman family of Harrison county. A photostat copy of a form letter from the State Medical Society Committee on Examination of the Medical Botany of the State addressed to Dr.P. Davis from Wheeling, 1868.

Newspaper clippings, principally from Harrison and Doddridge county papers, concerning W. Va. Servicemen in World War I, weather and flood reports, and miscellaneous West Virginia Subjects. There are also some clippings from Parkersburg and various Ohio papers.

Lists names of pioneers, ministers, soldiers, and teachers of early [West] Virginia, and adjoining counties of Maryland, with places of, residence and dates as compiled from approximately sixteen sources, including Withers Chronicles of Border Warfare; Hampshire County Court Records; Virginia Genealogy and County Records; Official Records of Frederick County; American State Papers, Claims XIX, Virginia; Allegany County, Md., Records; and History of Allegany County, Thomas and Williamas. Also, an ALS from Mrs. Hansrote to the WVU Library Staff expressing her appreciation of assistance received, 1958 February 15.
