Genealogy material of the Pace Family of Virginia and other branches in the United States.

Papers, 1935-1980, of historian and scholar Philip Lemont Barbour (1898-1980), including research notes for his historical writings on the settlement of North America. Most articles, clippings and notes concern those people associated with Captain John Smith, a leader of the Jamestown settlement in Virginia.

Papers of Philip Lightfoot of Culpeper County, Virginia including his commissions as lieutenant in the Second Battalion, 5th Regiment, Virginia militia and as captain in the 8th U. S. Infantry Regiment and papers relating to his service in the U. S. Army including records of a recruiting party, enlistment pledges, muster rolls, records of rewards offered for deserters and descriptions of U. S. Army uniforms.

Collection of the Battelle, MacLane, Mendel, and Spears families from southern Ohio and north-central West Virginia (including Wheeling and Morgantown), comprised of genealogy, records, clippings, photographs, artifacts, and more. Collection includes family genealogy and records (Box 1), individual carte de visites, cabinet cards, and assorted family photographs and newspaper article clippings (Box 1-2). Additional photographs include several cased family photographs such as daguerreotypes, ambrotypes and tintypes, mostly of Anna MacLane Battelle, her husband, William G. Battelle, and their son, James (Box 3). Family scrapbooks include personal photographs of Ted Spears and others and related ephemera (Box 4). Photographs of Ted Spears pertain to his college years at WVU and other events. Artifacts include family bibles and a lock of hair (Box 1), children's gloves, eyeglasses, earrings, and a ring (Box 3), and a safe deposit metal lock box (Box 6). A portrait of Ted Spears's great-grandfather, William G. Battelle, is included (Box 5).

This Collection contains a number of items all from the original Ramsay Family papers which were donated to the Smithsonian Institute: an account book from Andrew and William Ramsay dated 1798-1801, photocopies of Ramsay letters, history of Ramsay house, genealogical notes on the Ramsay family, Rebecca Ramsay Reese papers and diaries.
