Collection, 1876-1959, of Benjamin Curtis Chappelear including manuscript and printed maps of Fauquier, Loudoun, Clarke, and Warren Counties, Virginia; Virginia state maps; United States Department of the Interior Geological Survey Maps of areas in Virginia and West Virginia; notes concerning land records and manuscript volumes which include account books collected by Chappelear of blacksmiths, farmers, postmasters, students, tanners, and operators of general stores. The collection also includes drawings done by Nancy Chappelear as well as genealogical notes on different families.

Scrapbooks maintained by Charles Carpenter, Grafton, between 1939-1963. Subjects include descriptions of libraries, book and manuscript collections, museums, rare and unusual books, magazines, book reviews, newspapers, and advertisements for books. There are items as early as 1838, 1875, 1898, 1905, 1917, but the mass of the collection is in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. Recurrent topics include book auctions, book burnings, the dime novel, the Freedom Train, the Gutenberg Bible, Hyde Park Library, Incunabula, the Library of Congress, "London Times Notes on Sales," The Morgan Library, New York Times magazine and book review, New York Times columnists (Philip Brooks, Edward Larocque Tinker, and Herbert W. Collection contains materials documenting the Corr-Hogge family including H.L. Corr, Levi Pace Corr, Harry and Jean Corr among others. Collection includes correspondence, ledgers and journals dating from the 19th century. Topics covered include World Warr II.

Papers, 1826-1843, of the Dade family of King George County, Va. Includes letters received by General John B. Dade, his wife, Eliza Dade, and their daughter, Margaret S. Dade as well as letters to another relative Edward Smith. The collection includes a genealogical column, 1910, from the Richmond Times-Dispatch, which concerns the Dade, Daingerfield, Battaile, Hove, and Fitzhugh families.

Papers, chiefly 1801-1868, of the Darby, Parramore and Higgins families of Accomack and Northampton counties, Va. Includes wills, epitaphs, letters, a list, n.d., of slaves, a certificate of dismissal, 1834, from the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University) and genealogical notes on the families.

This collection consists of papers of Lexington, Virginia lawyer James D. Davidson and his daughter Mary Davidson and includes some correspondence, manuscript and printed poems of James D.Davidson, clippings, and some miscellaneaous papers from the family. James Davidson's printed and handwritten writings in the collection were compiled for his book "A Curiosity in the Chancery and Rhyme and Prose," (N.D., but likely 1876-81). The collection contains detailed genealogy of the Davidson, Greenlee, and McDowell families of Virginia and Kentucky. Other highlights are a typescript paper presented in 1915 by Greenlee Davidson Letcher to the Fortnightly Club of Lexington (Va.) on the life of Capatian Greenlee Davidson, son of James D. Davidson, who died fighting for the Confederacy during the American Civil War, a fragment of a handwritten 19th century recipe book, a small pen and ink drawing on Washington College stationary of the Virginia patriotic doodles and quotations, and a carte de visite photograph of the steamship "City of New York".

One box of material including original and typescript copies of letters exchanged between Anna Kennedy and J.J. Davis for the period 1860-1862. Also included is material on the Chapin family, Davis and Steen family genealogy and Reed family Bible. Correspondents are J.J. Davis, Anna Kennedy, J.W. Davis, Phineas Chapin, Rev. Asa Brooks, and J. W. Wayland. John W. Davis' certificate of Admission to practice before the Supreme Court of West Virginia dated 1896. His sponsor was Melville Davisson Post and President of the Court was Homer Holt. Also, Davis' commission as a Notary Public dated 1898.

Material collected by Mollie Wellford (Taliaferro) Duval including: Taliaferro family papers, 1825-1872, which include two letters written from Richmond, Va. in June and July 1862 from John P. Taliaferro of the 26th Regt. Va. Vols., C.S.A., to his wife, with news of Civil War battles, causalities, friends, and relatives; collected genealogical material of the following families of Gloucester Co., Va.: Wormeley, Wellford, Duval, Walke, Taliaferro, Tayloe, Nelson, Perrin, Taylor, Jones, Hansford, and Tabb; and genealogical material regarding Mrs. Duval's husband's (John Tabb Duval) descent from Richard Henry Lee, signer of the Declaration of Independence, and from Pocahontas.
