Atkins, Anna Blanche Shue, 1918-2010
Papers of Anna Shue Atkins (1918-2010), a poet, writer, and schoolteacher who was born and spent her early life in Pocahontas County, West Virginia. Contains Atkins's poetry and autobiographical writings, as well as her genealogical research, legal documents, correspondence, newspaper clippings, and other material. Contains material regarding the Bodkin family of Pendleton County, West Virginia. Items within the collection include two Civil War era letters written by William H. Bodkin, other letters, sheriff's summons, receipts, a funeral program, genealogical information, and photographs of Bodkin family members with identification. The collection also contains a brown velvet bonnet and a black scarf; six homemade quilts and a quilted pillow; and a fedora hat. Ballard, Margaret B. (1900-1976)
Papers of Dr. Margaret Byrnside Ballard (1900-1991), regarding the history of Monroe County, West Virginia, and the Ballard family. As a genealogist and author of local history, she was an avid collector of the historical materials contained in this collection, most of which relate to her family and Monroe County. The collection includes personal papers, business records, historical and genealogical research material, scrapbooks, bibles, memorabilia, artifacts, photographs, broadsides, paintings, and postage stamps. Also contains receipt for purchase of slave (1864); genealogy regarding the Forrest family and other families (undated); and a deed for a cemetery plot (1884). Papers of Neal Heflin and his daughter, Lois Heflin. Includes family papers, West Virginia University student records and publications (the Heflins were WVU students), and materials regarding West Virginia history and tourism. Neal Heflin attended West Virginia University in the early 20th century and remained in West Virginia throughout his life, living in both Clarksburg and Fairmont.

Spears, Ralph Edwin, Jr. (1919-2014)

Collection of the Battelle, MacLane, Mendel, and Spears families from southern Ohio and north-central West Virginia (including Wheeling and Morgantown), comprised of genealogy, records, clippings, photographs, artifacts, and more. Collection includes family genealogy and records (Box 1), individual carte de visites, cabinet cards, and assorted family photographs and newspaper article clippings (Box 1-2). Additional photographs include several cased family photographs such as daguerreotypes, ambrotypes and tintypes, mostly of Anna MacLane Battelle, her husband, William G. Battelle, and their son, James (Box 3). Family scrapbooks include personal photographs of Ted Spears and others and related ephemera (Box 4). Photographs of Ted Spears pertain to his college years at WVU and other events. Artifacts include family bibles and a lock of hair (Box 1), children's gloves, eyeglasses, earrings, and a ring (Box 3), and a safe deposit metal lock box (Box 6). A portrait of Ted Spears's great-grandfather, William G. Battelle, is included (Box 5).

Also includes a painting of family member Augustus Israel Stone. The genealogy and family history material regards the Stone Family and allied families including the Barnes, Farnsworth, Hammett (or Hammet), Spencer, Tracewell (or Trachel), and Warne families.
