Collection includes family correspondence of the Bowman, Veach, and Leeper families. Manuscripts include a recounting of the Civil War event known as "Jones' Raid." In another document Nathaniel Cochrane, an ancestor of Thomas Leeper, recounts his capture and imprisonment by indigenous people, along with a biography of Cochrane. Daily life for that time is captured in "Home Life of the Leeper Family." Other typescript histories include "Monongah," Thomas Leeper's diary regarding heavy rains and high waters of 1888, a history of West Monongah High School, and "History of the Leeper Family."

Air Force Captain Harvey Bowman served in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a member of the 43rd Bombardment Group and on General Douglas MacArthur's staff. One oversize scrapbook chiefly documents Bowman's military service in New Guinea and Australia from 1942 to 1945. This fragile volume consists of loose pages with photographs, orders and regulations, newspaper clippings, and other miscellaneous material tipped in. Photographs depict Bowman's unit and his surroundings in Australia and New Guinea, including both military subjects and the local people and geography. Also includes issues of several different GI newsletters; a 1944 issue of Yank magazine, a 1942 Pacific Islands Yearbook, and a 1929 dance program.

A journal kept by Henry Dans Ward while rector of the St. John's and St. Luke's Episcopal churches in Charleston and Malden and as proprietor of a school in New York. From 1843 through 1857 there are notes on churches and social, economic, and political affairs in the Kanawha Valley. Accounts for school and household expenses in New York cover the years, 1858-1862.
