Papers, 1736-1945, of and collected by Fairfax Harrison. Papers collected include colonial era documents, deeds, surveys, the diary of Sally Fairfax (1771-1772), legal papers, a copy of the Dettingen Parish (Prince William County, Va.) vestry book which contains minutes, indentures, and other (1745-1802), and photostat copy of the letterbook (1801) of Col. John Tayloe of Mount Airy, Va. Fairfax Harrison's papers include his correspondence with individuals and institutions concerning his interest in Virginia History. Prominent correspondents include John Stewart Bryan, David I. Bushnell, Worthington C. Ford, Douglas Southall Freeman, William G. Stanard, Clayton Torrence, Earl Gregg Swem, Lyon G. Tyler and Langbourne M. Williams. Subjects include Sir Edmund Andros,Francis Nicholson, Francis Fauquier, debtors' prisons, parish boundaries, Culpeper family, thoroughbred horses, county records, and the publishing of Harrison's works as well as the publishing of Robert Armistead Stewart's Index to Printed Virginia Genealogies and E. G. Swem's Virginia Historical Index. The collection also includes notes by Wilson Miles Cary concerning the Cary family and the books at "Carysbrook," Fluvanna County, Va.

This collection includes 54 miscellaneous letters, 1821-1866; diaries and financial records McFarland kept while he was a missionary and during his two pastorates, 1823-1836, and 1841-1871, at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Augusta County, Va.; lecture notes taken while a student at Princeton University; and printed biographical sketches and engravings of McFarland.Correspondents include Stonewall Jackson, George Junkin, William Spottswood.

Professional and personal papers, 1745-1892, of the Galt family of Williamsburg, Virginia. Papers primarily concern the Galt family's work at the Eastern State Hospital, including apothecary shop daybooks, account books, medical daybooks, clinical notebooks, weather diaries, commonplace books, reports, medical notes, lecture notes, correspondence, and other. The personal papers consist of diaries, letters, scrapbooks, school notes, financial papers, memoirs, and other material.

This collection consists of papers from the state of Georgia. it includes 84 miscellaneous items, such as legal documents concerning sales of slaves (1806-1855); Georgia naturalization paper (1809); law brief of a suit against the Habersham Iron Works and Manufacturing Co. (1843); requisitions and receipts for Civil War provisions (1864-1865); oath of allegiance (Sept. 1, 1865); broadside (July 31, 1863) There are four items from French settlers in Augusta, Savannah, and St. Mary's, Georgia: slave bill of sale, 1807; letter from Victoire Vincendiere to Mlle. Dugas de Vallon, 1826; letter from Chavenet to M. De Beauregard; July 24, 1820; and journal of a French merchant, 1811-1812.

Papers, 1795-1835, of the Holland family of Nansemond County, Va. and Jasper County, Ga. Includes a manuscript volume, ca. 1795-1800, used by George Washington Holland for arithmetic exercises; diary, 1832- 1835, kept by William S. Holland to record farming activities, descriptions of Fourth of July celebrations, a meeting concerning states' rights, and the sighting of a comet. Also includes genealogical information of the Holland family.

Typescript of diary, 1819-1846, of James Riddick Wilson, Smithfield, Virginia. The diary was transcribed and edited by Ethel Chapman Elkins Lau. It contains his autobiography which discusses education, his marriage and religion.

Papers of the Jerdone family, 1753--1890 (bulk 1771-1845): letters, letterbooks, diaries and account books of immigrant Francis Jerdone (1721-1771), a Scottish factor who lived in Hanover County, Yorktown and Louisa County, Virginia, and letters of his wife, Sarah (Macon) Jerdone.

Journal, 122 pages, of Johann C. Roehlcke, a farmer, containing a variety of information, such as how to plant and care for trees, recipes, dates of birth of his children, etc. Written in German script.

Millington's papers concern his experiences as directing engineer of the Anglo-Mexican Mining Association, as professor at the College of William & Mary (where he lived in the Wythe House), as professor at University of Mississippi, and at Memphis Medical College. Includes diaries covering 1832, 1835, and 1861-1867; letters of his family members; and Blankenship family land records and letters concerning the Spanish-American War.
