Collection consists of the papers of three Southerners, dating predominantly from the 19th century. John W. Lewis lived in Virginia, Mississippi, and North Carolina and the portion of the collection from this Methodist minister and farmer includes references to religion including sermons, farming, and slavery. Lewis P. Olds was a North Carolina lawyer and politician and the collection includes evidence of his career as well as poetry and short stories he wrote. The remainder of the collection is schoolwork of Sally Latting from 1808 and unattributed photographs and a recipe book.

This collection contains biographical items, correspondence (1798-1831), and Cabell's "Speech on the Anti-Tariff Resolutions," 1831. Correspondence is photocopied from the Cabell Collection at Alderman Library at the University of Virginia, and includes letters relating to William and Mary and the University of Virginia.

Papers, 1814-1907, of the Lambert and Sheetz families of Augusta and Shenandoah counties. Include papers of Daniel H. Lambert, Staunton, Va. including his orders as a conscript in the Confederate Army in 1864 and his Oath of Allegiance to the United States in July 1865. Sheetz, Woodstock, Shenandoah County and a single page extra newspaper issued by The Valley Virginian at the time of the riot, 3 November 1883,in Danville, Va.

The sixteen R.E. Lee items cover a date span of 22 years from 1847 through 1869. There are ten letters of Mrs. Mary Randolph Custis Lee ranging from the early 1850s to shortly before her death in 1873.

Mostly letters, financial records, published material and official records of individuals in Virginia and elsewhere. Includes documents and signatures of well known people, such as Benjamin Harrison, John Randolph and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Papers, 1783-1862, of the Thomas Smith family of Powhatan County, Va., Kentucky, and Ohio. Includes typescripts of letters, 1841-1842, of James George Smith; typescript of letter, 1862, of Thomas E. Smith; constitution, 1798, of the Emigration Society; and letter, 1799, and address, n.d., of the Humane Society against slavery. The Marie M. and Edith W. Smith Papers are primarily the genealogical charts and notes used to trace ancestral lines to the twenty-five Sureties of the Magna Carta (Barons of Runnymede). The notes are almost all from printed sources. Research covers Huguenot settlers in Virginia and Quaker and Scots-Irish settlers of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The collection also includes genealogical charts and notes compiled by Marie M. Smith and Edith W. Smith.

Letters, 1816-1819, received by Mark Taylor, a farmer at Genito, Powhatan County, Va. Includes letters from family members including Matthew Taylor of Monroe County, Va. [now W. Va.] and James Taylor (working as an overseer.)
