Papers relating to property owned by Anne Haughwout Cutler, of the Bucktrout-Braithwaite family in Williamsburg, Virginia. Cutler was the great-great-granddaughter of Benjamin Bucktrout, a cabinetmaker from London who moved to Williamsburg in 1766, where he opened a business making funeral coffins.

This oral history collection encompasses interviews that tell the story of the Bray School, the first extant building dedicated to the education of free and enslaved black children in the United States. The William & Mary Bray School Lab, part of the Williamsburg Bray School Initiative, has been researching and promoting the history of the Bray School and its legacy. Part of this work has entailed conducting oral histories with descendants of Bray School students and those researching or interpreting the Bray School's legacy.

The inventory is a guide to Mss. Acc. 1999.48 which is the postcard collection documenting pre-restoration Williamsburg, restored Williamsburg, Jamestown, the College of William and Mary, the University of Virginia, and cities, towns, and holidays in Virginia. Also includes clippings, articles, photographs, programs, and souvenir publications.

Correspondence, notes, papers, newspaper clippings, drafts and published articles belonging to Courtney Sharpe Ward, a writer for the Richmond News Leader in Richmond, Virginia. Many of her articles had a historical connection. The addition mostly consists of material on the 1957 350th Anniversary of Jamestown. Includes photograph and 1957 Press Card of Courtney Sharpe Ward.

First day issue of 2 (out of 4) color prints of commemorative stamps issued by the United States Postal Service on July 4, 1977, featuring craftspeople from the colonial era: the blacksmith, leatherworker, seamstress and wheelwright (the latter two are not included in the collection). Includes letters from Colonial Williamsburg president, Carlsine H. Humelsine, Fleetwood Stamp Company president, James A. Helzer, a biography of the artist, Lyle Tayson, and a small booklet about the stamp collection. The two prints ("The Blacksmith" and "The Wheelwright") are in color, with the artist's signature in pencil and a commemorative stamp with postmark: July 4, 1977.

Papers of Elizabeth Hayes (Goddard) who was the secretary to Rev. Dr. W.A.R. Goodwin when he began the effort to restore Williamsburg, Virginia.

Fred Frechette's papers which include his Richmond Times-Dispatch newspaper articles on Williamsburg, Virginia, photographs and his script and related material on "The Once and Future Camelot" a production given for the Williamsburg Reunion. Material related to his duty as a volunteer fireman and his March 25, 2000 pamphlet "William and Mary Students and the Travis House, Feb. 1, 1943-Feb. 28, 1951."

The James City County Oral History Collection holds two copies of transcripts and one corresponding cassette tapes of the Oral History Project directed by Robinette Fitzsimmon of the James City County Historical Commission. The collections includes interviews of residents of James City County, the City of Williamsburg, and York County, Virginia. Topics range from education to farming to Eastern State Hospital. Time periods covered begin with family memories from the Revolutionary War to the 1980's. Many interviewees were born in late 1800's to early 1900's.
