Diaries of Hostetter, a coal miner from Nelsonville, Ohio, which cover the years 1925 to 1949, one volume for each year. There are no volumes for the years 1933, 1937, 1942, 1944, 1945, and 1947. They contain information on mine production, inspections, accidents, equipment, labor, and other aspects of the coal mining industry.

Personal and business papers of Arthur I. Boreman (1823-1896), lawyer, U.S. senator, circuit court judge, and first governor of West Virginia. The bulk of the collection consists of papers relating to his judgeship and to the law firm of Boreman and Bullocks, Parkersburg, WV. Series include correspondence, notes on cases tried before Judge Boreman, envelope cases of material regarding legal cases in which Boreman was involved, financial material, and political and judicial printed material. Correspondence includes letters to Boreman from Francis H. Pierpont (1866-1867), which concern politics in West Virginia, the admission of Berkeley and Jefferson counties into the state, the Virginia debt, and Reconstruction in Virginia. There is little other material relating to the governorship or political activities. Additional correspondents include J.W. Davis, John J. Davis, D.D.T. Farnsworth, D.H. Strother, J.G. Jackson, Charles J. Faulkner, and E.W. Wilson. Also includes manuscripts of speeches; muster rolls; household accounts; civil and court case papers concerning oil well drilling and sales; railroad property inventories and operation; coal prices, shipping data, and strikes; liquid fuel transportation; and steam and tow boat cargoes, navigation data, and names of boats in service on the Ohio River. Correspondence, account books, and tax reports of the Liverpool Salt and Coal Company, American Calcium Chloride Works, Liverpool Salt Company, Jackson Coal and Mining Company, and Jackson Valley Bell Farm of Hartford in Mason County, West Virginia. In addition, there are account books for the G.Y. Roots and Company of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Clippings, letters, broadsides, and articles written or collected by E.E. Meredith, author of the newspaper column, "Do You Remember," which appeared in the Fairmont TIMES-WEST VIRGINIAN. There are: copies of theatre programs, 1917-1919; electoral tickets, 1860, 1864; a proclamation by George B. McClellan, commanding the Department of the Ohio, 1861; and an open letter, "Monongahela River Bridge Underwriting Syndicate Managers," concerning the construction of the million-dollar bridge in Fairmont. Subjects include: Marion County, West Virginia; Augusta County, Virginia; farming account books, ca.1853, 1888; Barnsville; Barrackville Covered Bridge; banks and banking in Marion County, 1842-1892; blacksmith shops; buffalo; Marion County Historical Society; coal industry in the Fairmont region; a West Virginia Gold Mining and Milling Company certificate; Grafton and Greenbrier Railroad Company stock certificate; stock of Weston and Fairmont Turnpike Company; school teaching, 1819, 1824, 1850, and 1858. Coal miner of Monongalia County, West Virginia. The collection includes pay envelopes and records from the Rosedale Coal Co., Connellsville By-Product Coal Corp. and Kelley's Creek Colliery Co. There also are certificates of appointment for a second-class mine foreman and a check weighman, an official tally sheet for a UMWA election, bylaws of the Mountaineer Craftsmen's Cooperative Association, a grievance blank, production statistics (1920-1921) for the Rosedale Coal Co.'s No.2 mine, and class notes and course material (1928) from a West Virginia University Mining Extension Course.

The collection consists of a letter from William N. Page, organizer of the Gauley Mountain Coal Company, concerning dangers in mining; abstracts of land titles granted to Robert Morris in 1795; World War II production statistics for the company; copy of a contract between the company, the United Mine Workers of America, and the Charleston General Hospital for hospitalization of miners and their families; letter outlining the life of Robert Hamilton Morris, director of the American Institute of Mining Engineers, 1946; and two blueprints showing bore holes and face section of the Pocahontas No. 3 and No. 4 coal seams.
