Scrapbooks maintained by Charles Carpenter, Grafton, between 1939-1963. Subjects include descriptions of libraries, book and manuscript collections, museums, rare and unusual books, magazines, book reviews, newspapers, and advertisements for books. There are items as early as 1838, 1875, 1898, 1905, 1917, but the mass of the collection is in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. Recurrent topics include book auctions, book burnings, the dime novel, the Freedom Train, the Gutenberg Bible, Hyde Park Library, Incunabula, the Library of Congress, "London Times Notes on Sales," The Morgan Library, New York Times magazine and book review, New York Times columnists (Philip Brooks, Edward Larocque Tinker, and Herbert W. This collection consists of correspondence, notes, articles, newsletters, news clippings, reports, studies, Congressional testimony, and other materials collected by Keith Dix and other members of the Peoples' Appalachian Research Collective for the purpose of preparing a 1971 issue of Peoples' Appalachia concerning strip mining in Appalachia. The bulk of the material is newsletters from anti-strip mining organizations and reports, studies, and testimonies on regulation of this industry.

Morgantown lock and dam, 3. little league game, 4. Buckhannon Strawberry Festival, 5. "Smallest Church in 48 States", 6. football defensive practice with coach Tippett, 7. "A Stripmine is Forever", and 8. "Skin" (regarding strip mining). There are also brief descriptions of the films authored by the donor.

Transcript of an interview with a retired coal miner of Lincoln County, WV. Mosley lived and worked in the coal fields of Logan County, WV and Pike County, KY most of his life. He started to work in 1929 when mining was still done by pick and shovel and retired in the early sixties when mining had become mechanized. He describes the changes in mining technology he experienced and the effect of unionization in the coal mining region of southern West Virginia.
