The culture and science series consists 181 posters that were used to advertise for a variety of events. There are also posters that advertise for attractions, such as zoos, that do not mention specific activities. The event posters usually list dates, times, and other information for potential attendees. The posters range in size from 20x57cm to 56x80cm with most measuring 56x80cm. Most of the posters date from the 1980s.

This collection contains thousands of natural history slides taken by nature photographer Kjell Sandved. Included are slides of flowers, fish, sea anemone, and hundreds of butterfly slides with identification information--family, genus, species, vernacular name, and locality--individually listed on most.

Correspondence and lecture files of Maurice G. Brooks, a French Creek native and WVU graduate, who served as a professor of biology from 1932 to 1938 and professor of wildlife management from 1938 until 1969. His papers particularly deal with his work with the Wilson Ornithological Club, National Audubon Society, and West Virginia Conservation Commission. Subjects of special note include: Redstart magazine; the formation of the WVU Faculty Senate; the controversy between Gov. Matthew M. Neely and West Virginia University president, Charles E. Lawall; and World War II. Notable correspondents include: Robert G. Kelley, Clarence Meadows, Jennings Randolph, and Irvin Stewart.
