Lazzell, Blanche, 1878-1956
Photographs, postcards, engravings, sketches, art tools, correspondence, pamphlets, recipes and newspaper clippings belonging to Blanche Lazzell, a West Virginia born leading American artist of the inter-war years. The collection reflects her development as an artist from her student days at West Virginia University to the end of the Korean War. Addenda include correspondence, genealogy, published material, photos, prints, drawings, news clippings, and mementos of Blanche Lazzell. Addenda topics include Lazzell family history, Blanche's art and artistic influences, and the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Holme, Frank, 1868-1904

Papers created and collected by Vause Marshall, relating to the career of Frank Holme. Holme (1868-1904) was born in Preston County, West Virginia, and became an illustrator for the Wheeling REGISTER, Pittsburgh PRESS, Chicago TIMES, and San Francisco CHRONICLE during the 1880s and 1890s; founder of the Palette and Chisel Club, the School of Illustration in Chicago, and the Bandar Log Press. Collection includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, original etchings, a wash painting, photographs, and printed materials. Subjects include the Frank Holme Memorial Group; the life of Holme and his wife, Ida Van Dyke; and an exhibition of drawings at the Chicago Art Institute in 1897. Correspondents include Vause Marshall and George Ade, among others.

Taylor, Grace Martin, 1903-1995
Papers, news clippings, programs, photos, certificates, and artwork of West Virginia artist, Grace Martin Taylor, who taught in Charleston at Mason College, and later at Morris Harvey. Her art, in several media including oils and watercolor, is modernist in style, showing a preference for abstraction. Also included is some material regarding her daughter, Lucie Anne Mellert, and her promotion of Taylor's art.

Davis, James E., 1901-1974
Artwork, photography, and papers of James Edward Davis, an artist born in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Davis studied art at Princeton University and had a prolific and varied artistic career, being particularly noted for his experimental abstract films involving color, light, and movement. This collection contains paintings, sketches, mobiles, photographic prints, transparencies, memoirs, notes on Frank Lloyd Wright and John Marin, and other material. There are addenda to this collection, which include memoirs and other writings, correspondence, material regarding Julia Davis and John W. Davis (relatives of James Davis), and other material. Includes clippings (Music Dept., 1953-54; CAC, 1964-69); newsletters (Music Dept., 1950-66; CAC, 1982-83, 1992-95); and news releases (CAC, 1969-77, 1986-95). There are scrapbooks for the Women's Music Club (1 volume, 1904-1919), Music Dept. (1 volume, 1951-59), and CAC events (9 volumes, 1966-92). A photo album contains photographs of the construction of Eisland Hall (ca.1953-54). There are also slides, photographs, and other records documenting the construction and dedication of the CAC facility (ca.1966-68). A slide show with accompanying audio cassette that profiles the facilities and programs of the CAC (ca.1976-79). The inception of WVU's "School of Music" is documented by an original announcement outlining staff and course of instruction for the 1897-98 academic year. There is also an addendum of 2004/09/16 (1 record carton, 17 in.) that includes CAC dedication program (1969), newsletters (1982-1998), and news releases (1989-1991).
