91 photos of African Americans during World War II. Many of the photos are labeled Wissmar (captured by Ally forces May 2, 1945) and Frankfurt, Germany. Some names of the soldiers are printed on the back of the photographs. Most of the photos are not dated and depict men in their uniforms near military vehicles and in a casual setting. Some photographs are of the men with local (civilian dress) women.

This oral history project accompanys and is used extensively for the "A Better Life for Their Children: Julius Rosenwald, Booker T. Washington, and the 4,978 Schools that Changed America" exhibit, which will be on display in the Virginia Museum of History & Culture from May 2024 until April 2025. The exhibit and the oral history project examine the legacy of Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington co-creating schools in the American South to educate Black children otherwise exluded from the public school system due to segregation laws. The oral history project consists of interviews with former pupils of Rosenwald schools in Virginia.

Two panoramic photographs of African-American training units at Camp Lee, Virginia, in the 1940s. The first is a group photograph of "Company "G", 9th Quartermaster Training Regiment" stationed at Camp Lee, with the names of all members of platoons 1st through 4th listed along the bottom of the image. The second panoramic photograph was taken in front of the 1st platoon building and features five rows of unnamed soldiers.

Primarily this is a collection of love letters written between 1942-1944 to Gertha Barbara Jean Sykes residing in St. Louis, Missouri and James NMI Dansby, an African-American soldier in the United States Army. There are also letters from two other Army soldiers, Jack Smith, stationed in the Pacific and Benjamin D. Collins, an aircompany soldier, whom Sykes married in 1949.

Bozarth of Williamsburg are present.

Four letters to Miss Helen Cowley, Dingley's girlfriend. Dingley was assistant director of the Hamtramck Tau Beta Camp in Columbiaville, Michigan. This was a camp for underprivileged youth and Dingley writes about his time at this camp. As an African American, Dingley also details his time at the NAACP wartime conference, held in Chicago in 1943.

Artifacts and memorabilia kept by members of the Alpha Delta Sigma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. at William & Mary. In addition to memorabilia and a flier from the first class of pledges, there are also fliers from attempts to organize a chapter in the early 1990s and a circa 1960s fraternity sweater worn by Justin Reid's father when he was a student at what was then Virginia State College and is now Virginia State University. The collection also includes an autographed copy of William & Mary Chancellor Sandra Day O'Connor's memoirs, given to Justin Reid when he was a President's Aide in 2008 and A History of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, 1911-1961, that future members studied to learn about the fraternity's history before the William & Mary chapter was formed. Artifacts received with Acc. 2011.585 include: Embroidered Dashiki (2011.585.01), Omega Psi Phi Kente Cloth Stole (2011.585.02), Camouflage Cargo Pants (2011.585.03), Digital Watch with Canvas Strap (2011.585.04), Virginia State College Omega Psi Phi Sweater (2011.585.05), Class of 2009 Cipher Button Pin (2011.585.06), Rope with Wooden Lamp (2011.585.07), and Wooden Bead Necklace with Carved Pendant (2011.585.08).

The Richard E. Norman film production collection contains film promotional flyers and brochures produced by Richard E. Norman through Norman Studios from 1919- 1940. Norman became a widely recognized film maker who produced "race" films. These were films that contained all African American casts and targeted an African American audience. Posters include those for films The Crimson Skull (1922) by Richard Edward Norman and The Flying Ace (1926) by Lawrence Criner.
