Papers, 1800-1901, of and relating to John Hipkins and John Hipkins Bernard (mostly accounts); of and relating to members of the Hipkins, Bernard and Robb families; and relating to the Hipkins-Bernard-Robb home "Rose Hill," Caroline County, Va. (later renamed "Gay Mont") and to Bernard's lands in Alabama, Texas and Arkansas. Includes diaries, correspondence, poems, accounts and account books of women (Elizabeth Hipkins, Jane Gay Robertson Bernard, and Helen Struan Bernard Robb); and legal documents and letters of John Taylor of Caroline. Of special interest are the diaries of Eugenia D. Robb while serving with the American Red Cross in Germany and Japan during and after World War II (1999.56A).

Pleasants' account book kept in Henrico County, Va. covers the years, 1771-1778, and concerns the export and shipping of tobacco and other crops. It includes the religious diary, 1821-1824, of Mary W. (Pleasants) Mosby. 157 p. : bound volume ; 25 cm.

Pleasants' ledger kept in Henrico County, Virginia covers 1769-1777. The volume includes a few accounts kept during 1823-1824 by an unidentified individual and a short story, "The Unlucky Man." Papers of Robert Preston, surveyor of Washington County, Virginia, dated 1780-1864. Includes on site notes of land surveyed, without plats. Mostly unprocessed and the vast majority of items has not been described yet.

This collection contains correspondence, deeds, estate indentures, account books, receipts notebooks, photographs, carte-de-visite, genealogical research and trees, clippings, a tintype, and ephemera, including wallets, a metal box, and a lock of hair documenting the Rose, Redd, and Claiborne families of Virginia. Names frequently appearing in papers include Eugene M. Redd and his son James Redd. Also included are Ezra Morrison, Mattie Tompkins, Clarence Redd, Jessie Redd McCarthy, Rachel Ayers, Blaine McCarthy Willett, John McCarthy, and the Blain family. The papers document genealogical research and track land purchase and holding, including the Bellevette, a Robert Rose property that has passed down to his descendants, in Nelson County. Also included is correspondence from the turn of the century regarding the Central Virginia Electric Cooperative, a private, not-for-profit cooperative that has provided electricity to customers.

This collection of 3,098 pieces, dated about 1764-1916, consists of papers of a family of Smiths who lived at Smith's Cross Roads, Mecklenburg County, Virginia, and the Walker family who lived at Brunswick County, Virginia. Most of the papers are dated about 1860-1900. Some of the more interesting works include the following:

Papers of John and Lewis Stuart, 1785-1823, and of Samuel Price, 1830-1879. Price's papers include mainly legal and business correspondence related to Price's law practice in Lewisburg, West Virginia. The Stuart papers concern settlement in Greenbrier County, land transactions, and family matters. The collection includes lawyer's fee books and account books for general merchandise, ca.1830-1880. There are also printed booklets of court briefs, pamphlets concerning "the slavery question" and railroads, and several Congressional documents.

This collection contains correspondence to and from Taylor, account books, financial statements, and deeds and other documents for the Dismal Swamp Company. Includes correspondence related to William & Mary. The collection also includes a land indenture between William and Mary Cunningham and Edmund Christian and the College of William and Mary regarding land in Hanover County.
