One bronze medal, 3.5in. in diameter. It is one of five struck from the die of a gold medal presented to General Winfield Scott by the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1848. The obverse shows Scott; the reverse has a column labeled "1848, Mexico," the names of various Mexican War battles, and the legend "Fecit Quod Cogitavit" ("he did what he thought"). Gift of Robert M.
