Plaster Cast of a Medal Presented by the Philadelphia Athenaeum

Scope and content:

A plaster cast of the obverse of a medal, possibly associated with the founding of the Athenaeum in 1814 or the constuction of the Athenaeum building in 1845. The cast shows a Greek figure sitting with a shield and reads "Philadelphia Athenaeum--Instituted MDCCCXIV." Plaster cast measure 2'' (diameter). Poor condition with a crack through the center of the cast and a chip missing at the cast's bottom. Gift of Mimika Farish Frith. EDU2012.075
