English Ceramic Pipe

Scope and content:

Scope and Contents White ceramic English pipe (broken) from England or North America in the 17th century. The larger piece contains the bowl, and the smaller piece is just a small portion of the pipe and its mouthpiece. The pipe has "S" written on one side at the base of the bowl, "V" on the other, and an unknown symbol beside each letter as its maker's mark. Pipe (larger) measures 3'' (length) x 1 3/4'' (height). Smaller portion measures 1 2/5'' (length) x 1/4'' (height). Poor condition with the the mouthpiece broken from the rest of the pipe, a large piece missing from the bowl and stem, and grime covering up portions of the maker's mark. EDU2012.054
