William Cabell Rives Letterto Joseph Galesand William Winston Seaton, 1856

Scope and content:

This letter, December 21, 1856, from William Cabell Rives(1793-1868), "Castle Hill,"Cobham, Virginia, to Messrs. [Joseph] Gales(1786-1860) and [William Winston] Seaton(1785-1866) of the National Intelligencer, expresses appreciation for their "very handsome introduction and endorsement" of [ Home and the World] by Mrs. [Judith Page Walker] Rives(1802-1882). Rives also writes that his wife wishes to have the honor of sending copies of her book to Mrs. Gales and Mrs. Seaton in remembrance of their kindness.
