Cleaver, 1880/1920

Scope and content:

The cleaver is in a blue velvet lined box marked AO with metal hinges and clasp. The cleaver consists of two parts: a sharp blade marked P4354 and a handle that screws into the blade. The box measures 6.8cm x 15.2cm x 7cm. William Gay Christian graduated from the UVA School of Medicine in 1889 and became an instructor in anatomy that year at UVA. He became a professor and faculty member at UVA until 1905. He taught anatomy at MCV from 1910 to 1922-23.
