Congressional papers collections contain a number of documents, such as case files, academy files, and constituent correspondence that may contain personal information, such as Social Security numbers, addresses and phone numbers, and medical, education, and personnel records. Special Collections seeks to balance making information available to researchers with protecting the privacy of individuals and upholding laws that restrict access to personal information.

Patrons who wish to use congressional papers materials must consult with a librarian or archivist.

Items on digital or audio-visual carriers will need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis before digital transfer occurs. Allow at least two weeks for the evaluation phase. Digitization may take between two and four weeks.
