Transcription: [double-headed eagle] The Schaffer Collection of Russian Imperial Art Treasures ROCKEFELLER CENTER NEW YORK #2454 Amethystine owl by CARL G. FABERGE, the celebrated Russian Court jeweler. Carved out of a single piece of this stone, which was especially chosen for its unusual color and shading, the owl is finely chased in great detail. Tiny gold-mounted olivenes (sic) are set in for the eyes, and such a choice was a happy inspiration, as they add greatly to the character of the bird. He is shown with his meticulously chased gold feet perched on an ivory stand which has sapphire tips. The whole rests on a base which is composed of a single slap (sic) of lapis lazuli. A typical Fabergé nicety is added near the base: - two tiny enameled bands, one in white matte enamel, and the other in a lovely shade of translucent pink enamel, complete the color harmony, and are a charming surprise.
