Physical description:
Set of 81 lantern slides, black and white with a few hand-colored, primarily of portraits of George Washington by various artists. The set is created by William A. Wilcox and includes slides from the Pennsylvania State Museum, Keystone View Company, and publisher Edward Van Altena with other being unmarked. Artists and sculptures include: Charles Willson Peale, Jean-Antoine Houdon, Archibald Robertson, Robert Field, James Peale, Christian Gulager, Rembrandt Peale, Benjamin Henry Latrobe, John Faed, Thomas Bell, Pierre Eugene du Simitiere, William Robertson, William Williams, Horatio Greenough, James Sharples, Robert Edge Pine, St. Memin, Edward Savage, Cerrachi, Madame de Brehan, John Trumbull, John Ramage, Joseph Wright, Gilbert Stuart, and unidentified artists. Includes one portrait of Martha Washington and several portraits and self-portraits of Gilbert Stuart and Charles Willson Peale. Lastly there are three slides of William A. Wilcox, two of him speaking at the site of the Battle of Wyoming and one of an American flag flying over the monument at the battlesite. Housed in a leather-covered, hinged box.
