Set of 72 lantern slides and glass plates, mostly hand-colored with several black and white, exterior views of the Mansion (east, west, south and north), interior views of Mansion rooms including: Study, Central Passage, Little Parlor, Front Parlor, Chintz Room, Blue Room, Dining Room, South Lumber Room and Washington Bedchamber. Estate views: stable, new tomb, lawns, south lane, north lane, flagpole, snow scenes, upper garden, brick walls, colonnade, kitchen, spinning house, greenhouse slave quarters, Mansion circle, sundial, Washington's coachee, and serpentine paths. Additional there several portraits and portrayals of George Washington (at his home with Lafayette, playing the flute with Nelly playing the harpsichord, on horseback in military uniform, and inspecting an American flag), a portrait of Martha Washington (Athenaeum), Washington's birthplace, and the Mary Washington House in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Most views are unmarked with several attributed to Edward Van Altena (photographer) and Augusta A. Heyder (colorist). Housed in a wooden, leather-covered hinged box.
