Black and white photographic image of the excavation of the summer house vault. According to the 1936 Minutes of the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association the purpose of the excavation is as follows: Immediate removal of the remaining portions of the foundations of the Summer House, which was not an original building, for these obstruct further construction research. This will help to determine the type of superstructure which originally covered the vault Excavation of the area behind the vault to determine the original grade level, and then grade in the immediate vicinity according to the original grade determined. Evidence of delamination of the emulsion from glass substrate (as of 10/24/2023).
