Hand colored lantern slide of Washington's tomb at Mount Vernon, c. 1900. Several visitors stand near the obelisk memorial on the far right. At far left is a partial view of a tall iron fence put up around an oak tree planted in 1893 by Sir Julian Pauncefote (British Ambassador to the US) for the Prince of Wales. The fence was later removed in 1904. Label on th reverse of the slide reads: 5328 | 39 , Washington's New Tomb - Mt. Vernon - Va (handwritten); Life of Geo. Washington (stamped); and Williams, Brown Earle, Inc., 918 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, Pa. (printed).
