Stereographic view of Washington's tomb at Mount Vernon, color photomechanical print. Edmund Parker, tomb guard, stands next to the iron gates at the entrance to the vault. Text printed directly onto the reverse of the cardboard mount reads: Washington's TOmb, Mount Vernon, Virginia. Washington's Tomb, as seen in the picture, is at the foot of a little knoll, a couple of hundred yards from his home, Mt. Vernon. In this tomb reposes the mortal remains of George and Martha Washington. Through the open iron door can be seen the stone escarpments of the two tombs. It is visited asa matter of courtesy to the American nation, by all the great foreign diplomats, who place wreaths on the tombs. All boats on the Potomac toll their bells when passing.
