Stereoscopic view of the crossroads near the tomb. The path leading from the wharf to tomb is in the foreground. An African American man stands near the crossroads and a bridge leading towards the estate. The tomb can be seen in the distance. Mounted on orange board. The publisher's imprint on the front of the cardboard mount reads: N. G. Johnson, Photographer, 309 9th St. Washington, D. C. Only Authorized Publisher of Mount Vernon Views. A label adhered to the back of the mount reads: Tomb of Washington, Mt. Vernon. The ante room to the Vault is about 12 feet square, and here are seen the Sarcophagi; the one on the right containing the remains of General Washington, and that on the left, those of Martha, his wife. It was built in accordance with the directions contained in Washington's will, to which his remains were removed in 1831. N. G. Johnson, Photographer, 423 7th St., Washington, D. C.
