The structure was removed and replaced with the restored coach house in 1894. Mounted on orange board. The photographer's imprint on the front of the card reads, N. G. Johnson, Photographer, No. 317 Pa. Avenue, Washington D. C. Only Authorized Publisher of Mt. Vernon Views. A preprinted label affixed to the reverse reads, View from Old Brick Barn to the North arched Gate, Showing the Butler's House, Old Family Kitchen and Supts. [Superintendent's] Office. The date [1880] is written in red pencil. A separate handwritten note reads: Gift through V-R [Vice Regent] for Mass., 1947. A portion of the top right corner has completely been torn away.
