Simmons, Chief of Protocol of the State Department and Charles Wall (third from left), Resident Superintendent of Mount Vernon. The following caption is printed on the reverse of the photograph: Field Marshall P. Pibulsonggram [Phibūnsongkhrām], Prime Minister of Thailand, arrived by air in San Francisco, California, on April 23 to begin a three-week visit to the United States on the invitation of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. In Washington the Prime Minister was the official guest of the U. S. Government and met with the President, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Defense and other high officials, conferring on matters of mutual concern between Thailand and the United States. He met with Congressional leaders in a joint session of Representatives in the Capitol. Before and after his stay in Washington, the Prime Minister visited a number American cities and towns, meeting civic, cultural and industrial leaders, and observing American government, industry and education at work.
