The group poses following a press conference held at Mount Vernon on George Washington Birthday to introduce Senate Bill 1703 (Piscataway National Park National Park Expansion 1993). The bill authorized the expansion of boundaries of Piscataway National Park and enabled federal acquisition of currently unprotected properties within Mount Vernon's historic viewshed.
