Mount Vernon's resident superintendent Harrison H. Dodge stands next to Capt. L. L. (Levi Lowell) Blake who pilots the steamship 'Charles Macalester' on a path in the upper garden. In the distance are additional visitors near an opening in the garden wall that leads to the rose house. The rooftop (taller structure) of the spinning house can be seen above the garden wall.
