Black and white photograph of a partial view of the east front of the Mansion. Includes view of two pecan trees to south of the house and people on the piazza. Back of photograph includes a handwriten note that reads, 'Pecan trees "Mississippi hickories." Tree on right - 30" d.b.h. 120' tall (No. 120). Tree on left - 34" d.b.h. (No. 118).'

Regarding the measurements written on the back of the photograph, W. R. Mattoon, Extension Forester explains in an accompanying letter [September 22, 1932] the following: 'The measurements of height were taken not with a precise instrument but by the Biltmore stick that is only approximate. The diameters were carefully measured at a height of 4 ½ feet above the ground level.'
