A contemporary manuscript copy of a letter in which Nelly Parke Custis describes having seen George Washington writing his farewell address at Mount Vernon. When the address was finished, she says he asked her to bring him silk string, and she watched him stitch the address together in front of her. Nelly writes this as a rebuke to one of Alexander Hamilton's sons, who claims his father wrote the farewell address.
