Georges Washington de Lafayette, La Grange, son of the Marquis de Lafayette, writes a condolence note to Martha after the death of George Washington. Georges writes of Washington's "parental kindness" when he visited Mount Vernon and says, "How far was I to imagine when I left your family that it would be a last farewell."
