A.L.S. 4 pages. Woodlawn. Went on visit to Mt. Vernon--Cousin Jane [Washington]--reading Fanny [Kemble] Butler's Journal--disappointed in it--has poor opinion of Americans-Miss Butler's opinion of American Society--Gov. White [of Louisiana]. Name on original manuscript appears as "M. E. A. Lewis." Autograph letter signed, integral cover, docketed, postmarked "Alexandria D.C., May 11," marked "No. 27," watermark, laminated.
There follows a postscript by E.P. Lewis: A.L.S. 1 page. Unseasonable weather--"I hope all your good Citizens build Bathing rooms in their new Houses as they are so necessary and so easily made where there are waterworks." Name on original manuscript appears as "E. P. L." Date on original catalog card appears [1835] [May 10]. Autograph letter initial signed.
