A.L.S. New York. All shocked at Vice Regent Halsted's giving confidential letter to Council. Likes Mrs. Halsted but "she does not quite take in the genius and spirit which should guide us." Now past the begging stage, may seek particular objects but work should be quietly done always to restore to Washington's period. All commended Mr. Hollingsworth and Major Blake. Mrs. Berghmans presided. Will write the Superintendent for drawing and estimates of gateway and send to Mrs. Hudson or Mr. Fitch. ER-18, p. 231
