A.L.S. Berkeley Springs. Sad to hear of Mrs. Riley's death. Hers and an infant of "West" are the only deaths at Mount Vernon since the MVLA took over in 1860. Wants more copies of the report. Considers a winter at Georgetown to complete Mount Vernon work. Is distressed to hear visitors are asking to see her portrait. She would like it locked in a closet for no one to see. Considers it a nice piece of art, but not a good likeness of her. Visits Mrs. Lincoln Phelps of Baltimore, who is writing Regent's biography for "True Woman." ER-11, p. 165
