Biographical / historical:

Ross Schmoll commissioned into the United States Air Force in 1959 after graduating from Cornell University, rising to the rank of Colonel before retiring in the late 1980s. Assignments included:

  • B-47
  • B-58 crew member
  • F-11 crew member (radar navigator bombardier) stationed at Royal Air Force Upper Hayford (England) and subsequently in Thailand
  • Deputy commander for maintenance, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina (four squadrons of F-4Es)
  • Director of maintenance at the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE)
  • Assistant Director of Logistics at USAFE
  • Defense Logistics Agency
