Biographical / historical:

William B. Rutherford grew up in Cape May, New Jersey and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1953. After three years in the Marines, he transferred to the United States Navy and attended nuclear power school. Rutherford saw duty on several nuclear powered subs, serving as a chief electrician. He retired after 20 years of military service.
