Steven L. Amato, a 1983 VMI graduate, entered active duty in October 1983. He trained as a B-52 navigator and was deployed during Operation Desert Storm (January 1991). In addition to his many assignments, he served at the Pentagon and worked on President George W. Bush's first inaugural. Amato also served as the Head of VMI's Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps (AFROTC) detachment.
