Biographical / historical:

Demetrius "Pete" Lypka was born in 1918 in New Jersey and enlisted in the United States Army in 1941. He was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division, 16th Infantry, Company G and served until the end of World War II, seeing action in North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. Lypka was discharged in July 1945 and returned home to start a career as a carpenter.
