Biographical / historical:

Walter Luikart joined the United States Merchant Marines in 1943. He served on nine ships, including Liberty ships that carried cargo and on troop ships in the English Channel that delivered soldiers and vehicles to the beachhead. Luikart's assignments took him to the North Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and Mediterranean Sea. He left the service in 1947.
