Biographical / historical:

Nathan DeSantis joined the Merchant Marines in December 1941 and is a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy, Class of 1944. He served throughout World War II on various vessels that carryied cargo in support of combat operations. DeSantis spent his entire career in the Merchant Marines and retired in 1988.
