Chalmer E. Cowan was born in 1919 in Pennsylvania and was drafted in the United States Army in October 1941. After basic training, he was assigned to Battery A, 27th Field Artillery Battalion. He fought throughout North Africa and Italy during World War II. Cowan was discharged in July 1945.
