Joseph L. Argenzio was born in 1927 New York City, New York. He entered the United States Army in 1944 and, following training, was assigned to the First Infantry Division, 3rd Battalion, 16th Infantry, M Company. On D-Day he was part of the first wave at Omaha Beach, France. Argenzio subsequently saw combat in France, Belgium, and Germany, and participated in the liberation of Falkenau concentration camp in Czechoslovakia.
